Travel Day

Today was to be a travel day, we left Golden and we ended up in Kelowna.
Last night we stayed at some rustic cabins outside of Golden...they were definitely rustic!

Although it should have amounted to 3plus hours of driving, but due to our many stops along the way, it took us all day!

Gorgeous drive! These are the many tunnels or “snow sheds” we went through. They are built over the highway in the Rogers Pass area to prevent avalanches from covering the roads.  they get on average 21 metresof snow per winter in this area!!!
A tribute to the Swiss guides who came to the area to guide hikers and tourists at the turn of the century....oh wait, that is the birthday boy!

These is some of the arsenal used each winter to shoot at the mountain and cause controlled avalanches

Rogers Pass was stunning.

We stopped and had some short hikes at some Rainforests in Glacier National Park. There were some huge Western Red Cedars. They were sooooo tall.

We drove up Mount Revelstoke. This was the map, I have circled the road up...it was crazy!

About halfway up, overlooking Revelstoke.

A mountain top lake.

The view was stunning from the summit.

Next we stopped at Craigellachie. This was where the last spike was driven on the rail system in 1885 and joined western and eastern Canada by rail.

Coincidentally, a train passed while we were there.
We didn’t stop to get any photos, but the drive to Kelowna was lovely, rolling hills, large lakes, some crops and produce.
